Rustic Scrap Wood Lanterns

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday full of family, friends, and food babies! I’m still recovering from mine. But, worry not, I wore my fat pants, so my food baby had plenty of room to grow. After we filled our bellies with yummy turkey day casseroles and carbs, we all crashed fast and hard. From the hours of 3pm to 6pm we were all comatose on the couch.

After a full belly and a nice long nap, I snuck out to my workshop, dug through my scrap wood pile and made a couple of these DIY rustic lanterns. Wouldn’t they make great Christmas gifts? I just love handmade gifts, don’t you?

Build a pair of rustic lanterns out of scrap wood - via Jen Woodhouse #scrapwoodchallenge

I used Varathane’s wood stain in Antique White to give the lanterns a beachy vibe, then finished it with a couple of coats of clear matte spray polyurethane. The handles were taken from old paint cans and I had the glass hurricanes and candles on hand. Gotta love fast, fun, and FREE projects! Michael’s usually has a great selection of glass cylinder hurricanes and candles.
