On Monday I shared the Mood Board for how I want my living room to look when the time comes for the kitchen remodel. One of the main pieces that I loved was the West Elm bin pull console table.
I love the rustic feel and iron pulls and legs, but the price tag of $1049 was WAY over what I would spend for a table. Ever since I spotted the table I've been on the hunt for a cheaper version. Well, guess what I spotted at HomeGoods?
Okay, bare with me for a minute. I know it's smaller and doesn't have the iron detail like the West Elm table, but it had potential. I wasn't sold on the table at first, but after walking around the store and asking for your opinion on Facebook, I bit the bullet and bought the table.
I know it kind of clashes with our gold floors, but they will be refinished in the near future, so I'm not really worried about them now.
I lived with the table a few weeks, before I made any changes. Once I was set on keeping it I hauled it outside for a mini makeover.
I loved the lines of the table and the two drawers, but the white ash color was not what I was looking for and didn't resemble the West Elm table.
Enter my favorite stain, Minwax Jacobean.
The stain wasn't very dramatic, but it did get rid of the white and enhanced the natural wood grain. I would have taken an after picture outside, but it started raining so we had to quickly bring the table inside.
After the stain and poly were dry I spray painted some gold corner brackets and attached them with nails.
The handles were custom built out of sheet metal to resemble the bin pulls from the West Elm table.
The change is subtle, but just enough.
I couldn't be happier with the way this table turned out. I'm pretty sure this is one of my favorite projects to date.
I love when an expensive piece can be replicated for a fraction of the price!
***UPDATE***
Here's the room currently, with the new plank wall and painted door!
