Sunday Shawl for Sis

My sister Alison is an incredibly wonderful mother, wife, sister and daughter. She is a beautiful person inside and out…always smiling, has a kind word for everyone, and is an even tempered gentle soul. She is also strong willed, and a hard and smart worker. Alison is a tireless advocate (and inspiration) for her family and her church. She home schooled her five children (and a niece) as she helped her husband build their own business. Recently Allie was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. She has met this news with the grace, strength and depth of character which she has had her whole life. This shawl is for my dear sister. To keep her warm and wrapped in the love and admiration I feel for her everyday.

This is a great pattern. Well written. Lots of pictures are provided on the pattern pages. The easy main body stitches are great mindless crocheting with just a bit of interest. The border rows are wonderful, I loved working on it more with each additional row of the pattern. I was actually kind of sad when it was finished it was so enjoyable a project.

I needed to add some size. I wanted the shawl bigger and to come down further on the arms. This info from the pattern’s comment page came in handy:

The border rows rely on a count of 6 (per side of the V). Each new row of the SHAWL BODY increases the count by 3 stitches per side, so to increase or decrease the overall size of your shawl you will need to add, or subtract, rows two at a time. This will keep the patterns in the border intact, though it will affect the number of times each sequence will need to be repeated along each side of the rows

So I added six eight rows before I started the edging. :)

MC : Fallen Cloud. (Alternated my 3 skeins, and very glad I did. The skeins were well matched by the toshie elves…but when worked up, the color differences were much more apparent. I used all but a few yards.)

Border colors in order:

Bay horse, holi grunge, fir wreath, tart, vintage sari, bay horse, holi grunge, clove, pecaN hull, fallen cloud, filligree, undergrowth, tart, holi grunge

Wet blocked and pinned out the shawl. It opened the stitches up and made the picots purty. :)

I still need to get a pretty picture of my lovely sis wearing her shawl. But it’s done.

And best of all she loves it.
