PVC pipe furniture for children's bedroom

While once again searching around for ideas using PVC pipe, I stumbled across a great idea for using PVC pipes (in this case scaffolding) to make a headboard. This is a great idea for a children's headboard and you can buy PVC pipes in various sizes, as well as all the connecting pieces, at your local Builders Warehouse.

In fact, you could use PVC pipe to make a complete range of furniture for a children's bedroom. Take a look at the craft table above that uses scaffolding as the base for the table. Substitute with PVC pipe and you have an inexpensive base onto which you can add a top.

Working with PVC pipe is easy and you can use a junior hacksaw to cut all the sections to length to make a PVC pipe headboard.

You will need a tube of Tangit PVC weld adhesive to hold all the sections together.

Tangit sets in 4 minutes, so cut all the sections to the required size and test fit before gluing together. Make sure all the pieces fit together perfectly and then apply Tangit onto one section of pipe to join or add on a connecting piece.

Use Rust-Oleum 2X or Universal spray paint to paint the PVC pipes in any colour you want.

Before you spray, lightly sand the pipes with 180-grit sandpaper to provide a better bond and longer-lasting paint finish. Rust-Oleum Universal Hammered provides a faux metal look on PVC pipes.

If you really want a true industrial look, scout around for scaffolding pipes and construct a headboard and matching furniture.
