One of my favorite magazines, Real Simple, had a design style quiz in the March issue. The visual quiz in the magazine is different than online, but both are fun to check out. (Although I would still recommend finding this month’s magazine. I prefer the print version myself. The room photos are better in the magazine, in my humble opinion.)
I was overwhelmingly attracted to cozy casual. And, while our home isn’t 100 percent there, I think that the things we love most fit into this “personality.”
Description of Cozy Casual from Real Simple:
A warm, traditional look made for relaxing with family and friends. Draws on English and early-American furniture designs, as well as laid-back country, cottage and farmhouse styles. Weathered, low-maintenance furnishings are easy, inviting and built for daily life. Think golden retrievers, fuzzy slippers and just about any movie by Nancy Meyers.
It definitely sounds like the photos of rooms I tear out of magazines and bookmark online. It also calls for plush upholstery, slipcovers, warm wood tones, rustic and distressed furniture, natural fabrics and solids, stripes or unfussy florals. Yes, please.
My favorite part is that Real Simple recommends stores for your style. And, I have to say that the stores listed include two of my favorites inspirations (even if I cannot normally afford them) – Crate & Barrel and Pottery Barn. It also recommended Maine Cottage, Pine Cone Hill and Libeco Home, which are new to me.
Here’s a few other photos in my inspiration folders that I love that I think speak to the Cozy Casual style:
Go check it out at Real Simple. See if your design personality matches up as much as I think mine did. And, I’d love to know what your style is.
