If you are looking for a DIY project to work on this weekend, I think you’ll find one to love at week’s Farmhouse Friday, because the theme is DIY vintage signs!
If you’ve ever looked at the prices of antique signs – they are usually outrageously expensive. While I’d love to own one, it isn’t in my budget, so I create my own vintage style signs instead, and we’re going to look at some signs created by some other fabulous bloggers as well. Let’s get started!

I’ve always designed my own stencils to make signs, and I kept receiving requests to purchase stencils, so I finally developed my own line of vintage signs stencils. You can see all the designs currently available HERE.
The “fine boots and shoes” and address part of this sign stencil came from an antique business card. The name, “Goodfellow & Co.” came from my imagination – it just sounded like the name of an old business.
This seed store stencil design came from an early 1900’s advertisement.
I made this farmer’s market sign on an antique headboard several years ago.
The penmanship sign was THE most labor intensive sign I ever made, but I was so thrilled with how it turned out. It was based on a late 1800’s school primer page. Some day I’d like to make myself another one.
This Colonial Pharmacy sign was based on an old pharmacy label. It wins the prize as the 2nd most challenging sign I’ve ever made. The sign was painted on beautiful salvaged wood.
Not all of my signs are created on wood – my Take the Scenic Route sign was made on an antique automobile window.
Now let’s take a look at more vintage style signs created by some amazing bloggers!
I love this dairy sign created by Pamela @ Flower Patch Farmhouse.
Also from Flower Patch Farmhouse is a tutorial to paint these vintage crate style vegetable signs.
Doreen @ Hymns and Verses created a beautiful sign out of a barn door. How perfect is this to add true farmhouse style to your home?
Colour Saturated Life shows how to make this fun retro style kitchen sign.
Jamie @ So Much Better with Age shows how to make an Est. + Year sign. I think every farmhouse needs one of these.
Kim @ The Kim Six Fix shows how to make cabinet doors look like vintage signs. This technique is perfect if you don’t have any old wood to use for sign-making.
Sheila @ Plum Doodles makes vintage signs with grain sack motifs. It looks like an old cutting board, so it would be perfect in a kitchen.
Michelle @ Shelstring created this adorable bicycle sign. I seriously need this!

I love this window style lunch sign, and the shelf vignette @ Cherished Bliss.
This vintage sign design is by David @ Cheltenham Road. It does double-duty as a magnetic knife holder!
Isn’t that clever cleaver?! (ha ha)
This Vintage Goods sign was created on a screen window from Betsy @ My Salvaged Treasures. I totally LOVE it!
I love the vintage style lettering on this family homestead sign by Larissa @ Prodigal Pieces.
This Pottery Barn inspired Diner sign is from Our Southern Home. This would make a great weekend project that could be whipped up in no time!
Also from Our Southern Home is this hand painted garden sign.
This sweet Bible verse sign is available for purchase from High Plains Knot Work.
These straw hat signs from Amy @ Show and Tell U are so original and cute! I never would have thought to create a sign on a hat!
Carol & Randi @ FrugElegance. make vintage style wedding signs that are wonderful (and the kids are adorable too)!
Last, but not least, this vintage style grocer sign is by Lucy @ Patina Paradise.
Okay…just one more! I spotted this sign on clearance for $15 from Dot & Bo. This isn’t an affiliate link – I just love the sign!
