DIY Spring Planter Box

Spring is here and it’s time to spruce up your home and freshen things up both inside and outside. I’m a firm believer in first impressions and this is especially true for the outside of your home. A porch is one of the first things that welcome guest to your home. When friends and family arrive at our front door I want them to instantly know that they are welcome and invited into our fun loving home. This DIY Spring Planter Box is the perfect project to give your outdoor space a colorful and fresh new makeover.

A few years ago when we moved into our house I was so excited that it had a front porch. I’ve always loved the idea of having a front porch; it reminds me of simpler times where neighbors visited with each other, communities came together and life moved at a slightly slower pace. And I absolutely love having a space that instantly greets people when they arrive, it’s our home’s welcome center. I think this colorful DIY Spring Planter Box is the perfect addition to our fabulous front porch makeover, and it’s super easy too.

What You Will Need:

Unfinished Hanging Wood Planter Box
Wood Trim
Wood Heidi Swapp Welcome Sign
Americana DecoArt Curb Appeal Harbor Blue and Summerhouse Yellow
Paint Brush
Wood Glue
Flowers

**I picked up all of the supplies, except for the flowers, at Michael’s for this project.

Start by painting the unfinished wood planter box with the Americana DecoArt Curb Appeal paint. This paint is great for outdoor projects because it is specifically designed to enhance your curb appeal with it’s durable, fast drying formula. The new Curb Appeal paint is lightfast, scuff-resistant and weather-resistant so it will continue to look fresh and pretty for a long time.

I love color, and since I couldn’t convince my husband to let me paint the front door I thought I would add a bold pop of color to my planter box with the yellow wood trim and painted welcome sign. I attached both items to the planter box with wood glue and let dry over night.

Now it’s time to add a touch of spring with colorful flowers. I planted a variety of flowers in each section of the planter box, it’s an instant way to freshen up your outdoor decor.

I hung the planter box on the brick wall by our front door and added a few more plants and decor to really make this space welcoming to guest arriving at our home. I love how this simple DIY project instantly transforms my outdoor space and brightens it up! Now, maybe I can convince my husband to let me paint the front door a bright bold color.
