Client Living Room Before and After

Client Living Room Before and After

Alright folks, I hope you are ready for this one because this was a major project with an amazing before and after! The Wander family approached me last year about helping them redesign the main living spaces in their home. They were looking to freshen up their look while keeping it comfortable and family friendly for their two young girls.

They wanted to modernize and brighten the space without being too formal or fussy. They were wanting a major overhaul so we looked for ways to transform their space, including all new furniture and some minor build projects. Here is what their family room looked like before.

And the after. Let’s just say it feels much brighter and oh-so-classy!

There were a lot of things to tackle, and items to purchase new so this project was really about reusing and repurposing what we could and being smart about our budget. They had a list of everything they wanted new which helped us allocate money to the more important items and get creative with accessories and decor. Nancy, the client, has a great sense of style and loves a good deal (like myself) so we made a great team hunting for fabulous finds and deals.

She found some great knick knacks and books for styling the rooms that paired well with my finds from estate sales and antique shops.

One big-ticket item we tackled was re-tiling their fireplace. Before the fireplace was builder-grade tan tiles.

We picked out a beautiful stacked stone from the Tile Shop and my husband and father-in-law demoed the old and installed the new! It makes the whole room feel much more high end and adds a great focal point when you walk in the room.

The floor poofs from West Elm were a great way to add some fun seating for the girls but still keep sight lines open to the fireplace.

When it came to the TV we were looking for a piece with some pizazz, that would also help disguise how large the TV was. Here is the TV corner before.

And here is the piece I found on craigslist for the TV.

It was a beautiful piece of furniture that Nancy and I bargained with the owners on. We took it home and I painted it a dark grey and replaced the hardware with knobs from Home Depot. The after, well I think it speaks for itself!

Now the piece looks like a million bucks!

Before, the eat-in area off the family room looked onto an awkward arrangement of windows.

We disguised this by framing it out and adding custom window treatments to make it look like beautiful french doors leading outside. We also switched out the light fixture for a hanging lantern from Home Depot. It didn’t take much to transform this whole room.

I have lots more to share from their home next week but in the meantime a huge thanks to the beautiful Wander Family. You guys were a blast to work with!
