There are lots of things that you build by yourself and then use in your home. One example would be a coat rack. It’s a very useful and practical thing to have a home and when you’re building yourself you get to choose the dimensions, the design, the shape and to actually solve your storage problems since you know them the best. Hangers.
This is a coat rack that’s easy to do and can be done in a week-end when you have some free time. It uses actual hangers and this makes it both eye-catching and very versatile and functional. First paint the scrap wood and then gather the zoo animals and carefully cut them in half. Arrange the animals on the wood block and mix them up. Pallet.
A wood pallet would also make a great coat rack. Before you get to mount it on the wall and add the hooks you’ll have to paint it. Animal templates.
Here’s another version of a coat rack with animal hooks. To make this one you’ll need a wooden board, sandpaper, primer, paint, animal templates, adhesive stencil film, patterning tape, hooks, screws and hanging hardware. First sand the board and then apply the primer and paint. Print the animal templates and cut a piece of adhesive stencil film and make two wide strips. Reclaimed wood.
This coat rack is made from a wooden pallet. You’ll need four pieces of the same length and then two more pieces for the back. Hammer them down and the coat hanger is almost done. Key holder rack.
This is another ingenious coat rack design. It features old door locks and knobs. They are mounted on a wooden board and they are perfect for holding your jackets as well as your keys. Letter coat rack.
This is a letter coatrack. To make it you’ll need wire cutters, wire pliers, heavy metal wire, coated telephone wire, tape and fishing wire. First decide on the message you wish to transmit and spell out the letters from one continuous piece of heavy wire. Then wrap the letters tightly in colored wire. Then decide how many hooks you’ll need. Wrap the wire from the letters to the wire on one of the coat hooks and use fishing wire to attach them.{found on ohhappyday}.
Wood.
And here’s another interesting and ingenious idea. This coat rack is made from salvaged pieces of wood that have been put together to form a base. The pieces don’t need to have the same dimensions. Instead of hooks this rack features old door knobs and clothespins. If you want you can also add a few small hooks on the bottom that can hold the keys.
Insulator coat rack.
This is an insulator coat rack, another interesting idea for a design. To make it you’ll need a wooden board, a few insulators and pegs. You’ll have to support the insulators with pegs so first cut them to the needed length and drill a hole in each. Screw them to the base. Playful.
This coat rack has a very cute and playful design. It’s made of a simple wooden board with a smaller piece that serves as a tiny shelf for the toys to sit on. The toys serve as hooks. So first choose the ones you want to use and then arrange them on the board. When you’re happy with the arrangement, attach each toy to the board either with glue or with plastic straps.
Autumn Rack.
This is a stylish and chic coat rack. To make it you’ll need a piece of wood, knobs, screws, a screwdriver and some paint. First paint the piece of wood the desired color and let it dry. Then make light marks on the wood with a pencil. These will later show you where to place the knobs. Then attach the screws and twist the knobs onto them.{found on casasugar}.
Industrial.
These are a few modern designs with intriguing features. The coat racks not only look unusual but they also offer you inspiration for similar projects. The base for these coat racks are made of pipes or at least elements that look just like pipes. The hooks are faucets, all featuring the same design and size for a more cohesive and minimalist look.
Beach.
Paddles make interesting decorations for a home. You can simply mount them on the wall and they’ll become an eye-catching feature. But you can also turn them into something more useful, like a coat rack for example, all you have to do is attach some hooks to the paddle and mount it on the wall. And since we were talking about vintage and repurposed features, here’s another interesting coat rack design. This one is made from an old window panel. It has been placed horizontally and mounted on the wall. Its worn look and aged finish gives it character. The hooks are simple and painted to match the base.
